Pay Range: $25 to $32 / hour

Position Summary

The Railroad Track Welder is responsible for performing specialized welding and maintenance work on railroad track components to ensure safe and efficient rail operations. This role involves fabricating, repairing, and joining rail sections using various welding processes, operating track equipment, and working in compliance with industry safety standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Weld, cut, grind, and repair rail, frogs, switch points, and other track components using oxy-fuel, arc, and thermite welding methods.
  • Perform rail end alignment, rail replacement, and defect removal according to railroad specifications.
  • Operate and maintain welding equipment, grinders, cutting torches, and portable rail tools.
  • Inspect track components to identify defects or wear and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist with track construction and maintenance activities including rail installation, tie replacement, and ballast tamping.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and technical drawings related to rail welding projects.
  • Adhere to FRA (Federal Railroad Administration) regulations, railroad company standards, and safety rules at all times.
  • Complete required documentation for maintenance, repairs, and safety compliance.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel as required to job sites.
Qualifications

  • Must pass background checks, drug screening, and meet DOT and FRA physical requirements.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, and travel extensively.
  • Strong technical welding ability with attention to detail.
  • Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment.
  • Knowledge of railroad track structure and maintenance practices.
  • Safety-conscious with strong adherence to procedures.
  • Physical stamina to lift heavy materials, bend, stoop, and work long shifts outdoors.
  • Effective teamwork and communication skills.
  • Outdoor, field-based work along active railroads.
  • Exposure to noise, dust, heat, sparks, and weather extremes.
  • Requires use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including welding helmet, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, and flame-resistant clothing.
