Job description

Job Title: Welder/Fabricator

Shifts: 1st

Department: Sheetmetal

Reports To: Production Supervisor

Classification: Non-Exempt

Duties & Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently operate welding and shop equipment such as power supplies, wire feeders, voltage and current controls, welding helmets, guns, measuring tools, clamps, jigs, fixtures, and other hand tools.
• Operate overhead crane, forklift, and hand jack to move supply parts.
• Load and position parts to fixtures, secure with clamps.
• Set weld equipment controls for proper current and voltage based on materials.
• Maintain safety standards and operate safety equipment.
• Read prints and instructions fluently.
• Weld parts per print to meet quality and customer requirements.
• Solve operational problems to reduce costs and improve quality.
• Perform routine maintenance and report potential issues.
• Prepare requisitions for materials and supplies.
• Complete work orders, quality data, and perform clerical tasks as needed.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workstation.
• Design and build weld fixtures when required.
• Work with materials like aluminum, steel, and stainless steel.
• Efficiently assemble welds and perform layout work, welding in all directions, and metal finishing as needed.

Required Skills & Abilities

• Ability to read and understand complex prints.
• Strong ability to follow instructions.
• Proficiency in weld symbols and techniques such as TIG, MIG.
• Ability to weld in all directions.
• Understanding of decimals, fractions, and metric conversions.
• Knowledge of aluminum properties.
• Maintain a safe and clean workspace.
• Teamwork skills and ability to train others.
• Use of micrometers or calipers for quality checks.

Education & Experience

• At least two years of welding experience.
• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Experience in a production environment.
• Training in PPE, GHS, LOTO (onsite training available).
• Certification in Tow Motor and Overhead Crane (onsite training available).

Physical Requirements

• Prolonged standing.
• Frequent bending, stooping, twisting, reaching.
• Lift, carry, push, pull up to 50 lbs.
• Work safely in a production setting.
