Job summary

STERIS is seeking a Welder I to perform high mix/low volume manual TIG welding of stainless steel and aluminium in a medical device manufacturing environment.

You'll set up and operate TIG welding equipment, read blueprints, verify dimensions with gauges, and ensure quality standards are met. The role requires a high school diploma and welding experience, with training opportunities and shift: Mon-Thu 7:00am-4:30pm, Fri 7:00am-11:00am.

Qualifications

  • High School or GED required.
  • 1 year welding experience or completed certified welding program.
  • 2 years experience in solid metal fabrication / machining.
  • Completion of welding training program (Vocational/Technical).
  • Able to read and interpret welding blueprints and symbols.
  • Able to use precision measuring instruments and gauges.
  • Basic welding inspection knowledge and conduct visual inspection.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate TIG welding equipment to weld parts within tolerances.
  • Build weldments via manual layout and surface prep as needed.
  • Read welding blueprints, symbols, travelers, and work instructions.
  • Position parts with fixtures and holding devices.
  • Use gauges to verify dimensional requirements.
  • Assist in problem solving and ensure quality standards.

Position Summary

As a Welder you will be responsible for performing high mix/ low volume manual TIG welding of Stainless Steel and Aluminium in a high-quality medical device manufacturing environment.

Shift: Monday-Thursday 7:00am-4:30pm and Friday 7:00am-11:00am

What you will do as a Welder

Set-up and operate TIG welding equipment using prescribed methods and procedures to weld parts within acceptable tolerances and standards.

Build weldments through manual layout and manual surface prep processes when required.

Read and interpret welding blueprints including standard welding symbols, travelers, and other work instruction documents.

Positions parts to be joined using fixtures and other holding or positioning devices.

Use required measuring instruments and gages to check and ensure parts meet dimensional requirements.

Assist in problem solving activities

Complies with all quality standards.

The Experience, Skills and Abilities

Required:

High School or GED

1 year of Welding experience which may include a completed certified welding program.

2 years of experience working in a solid metal fabrication / machining environment required.

Other:

Vocational/Technical-Completion of welding training program

Welding experience in flux core, MIG, stick, carbon steel, preferred.

Able to use prescribed manual processes in TIG welding of stainless steel, mild steel, and aluminum.

Able to read and interpret welding blueprints, including all standard welding symbols.

Able to use precision measuring instruments and gages.

Strong math and troubleshooting proficiency and basic computer skills.

Basic welding inspection knowledge and conduct visual inspection.
