Job summary

Chart Industries, Inc. is seeking a TIG welder to perform moderate to complex welding tasks and read blueprints/BOMs. You will work on fixtures with jigs and clamps, ensure correct dimensions, and document activities.

The role requires 3+ years of TIG welding experience, the ability to pass weld tests, and the flexibility for overtime or weekend hours. Applicants should be comfortable with heat adjustments for thick materials, measuring with precision tools, and adhering to safety and ISO

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Minimum 3 years TIG welding experience and the ability to pass weld tests.
  • Experience reading blueprints and BOMs is essential.
  • Basic math skills for measurements and calculations.
  • Self-starter able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong problem-solving to address non-conformities and deviations.
  • Ability to measure with tape measure, micrometer and calipers.
  • Overtime and weekend hours may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Independently performs moderate to complex welding activities, including hand welding and material handling.
  • Welds metal parts on fixtures, attaching jigs and clamps to hold parts in position.
  • Determines steel type and gauge; makes heat adjustments for varying thicknesses.
  • Uses blueprints and sketches to ensure correct dimensions and components.
  • Updates and maintains all required documentation for responsibilities.
  • Assumes responsibility for tools and equipment.
  • Maintains a clean work area and proper disposal of hazardous waste.
  • Follows ISO standards and quality procedures; includes safety practices.
  • May perform mass spec and visual inspections meeting stringent requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned, e.g., painting or insulating a tank.

What Will You Do?
  • Independently performs moderate to complex welding activities, including hand welding and material handling equipment
  • Welds metal parts on fixtures including attaching jigs and clamps to hold metal parts in proper position
  • Determines type and gauge of steel to be welded making appropriate heat adjustments, as required, on large thickness variations
  • Uses blueprints and design sketches to ensure the proper dimensions and tolerance levels, as well as correct components installed on the finished product
  • Updates and maintains all required documentation associated with job responsibilities
  • Assume responsibility and care of assigned tools and equipment
  • Maintains a clean work area and general housekeeping standards, such as care for assigned tools and proper disposal of hazardous waste
  • Understands and practices established safety and quality standard procedures, including utilization of chemical solutions to clean containers
  • Performs all tasks to ISO standards and requirements
  • May be required to perform mass spec and visual inspections meeting stringent visual requirements
  • Performs other duties as assigned (Examples include – helping to mix paint or insulating a tank).

SCHEDULE:

  • Work shift: Friday/Saturday/Sunday
  • First shift: 5:00 AM – 5:00 PM

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this role, including close vision. color evaluations and the ability to adjust to focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration. Medium to loud noise level in the work environment.

Your Experience Should Be...
High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years TIG welding experience
  • Must pass 3G weld test and other weld tests including square butt, fillet, and groove joints depending on specific job requirements
  • Experience interpreting blueprints and bill of materials (BOM)
  • Basic math skills (weight measurement, volume, distance, multiplication and division)
  • Self-starter capable of managing workload under minimal direction and supervision
  • Proven ability to identify, reason and problem solve non-conformities and deviations
  • Must be able to use and accurately measure using tape measure, micrometer and calipers
  • Overtime and weekend hours, as needed
Preferred
  • Familiarity with ISO procedures
  • Knowledge or experience working with Chart products
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste regulations
