Job summary

Proteus Steel is seeking a full-time Welder / Steel Fabricator to join our Ridgeland, South Carolina team. You will fabricate and weld structural and miscellaneous steel from shop drawings, and inspect completed work for quality. Travel to project sites and field welding may be required based on schedules.

The ideal candidate has MIG and Stick welding skills, reads shop drawings, and is able to layout and assemble fabricated components with attention to safety and precision.

Qualifications

Role Description

Proteus Steel is seeking a full-time Welder / Steel Fabricator to join our team in Ridgeland, South Carolina.

The primary responsibility of this position will be the fabrication and welding of structural and miscellaneous steel. The Welder/Fabricator will work from shop drawings and fabrication details to lay out, fit, assemble, and weld steel components for construction projects.

Typical fabrication may include beams, columns, HSS, plates, angles, channels, connection material, supports, and miscellaneous steel components.

Daily responsibilities will include reading shop drawings, laying out material, measuring, cutting, drilling, grinding, fitting, welding, and inspecting completed work for accuracy and quality.

While this position is primarily focused on fabrication, travel to project sites and field welding/installation work will be required as needed based on project schedules and workload.

Qualifications

• Previous structural steel or miscellaneous steel fabrication experience preferred


• 7+ years of experience is a plus


• Strong welding skills with proficiency in MIG and Stick/Arc welding


• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, fabrication drawings, construction drawings, and weld symbols


• Experience laying out, fitting, and assembling fabricated steel components


• Ability to accurately read a tape measure and perform fabrication layout


• Experience cutting, grinding, drilling, and preparing steel for fabrication


• Familiarity with structural shapes including wide-flange beams, HSS, angles, channels, and plate


• Ability to safely operate welding equipment, saws, grinders, drills, and other common fabrication equipment and tools


• AWS or equivalent welding certifications are preferred but not required


• Willingness to obtain or maintain required welding certifications


• TIG welding experience is a plus but not required


• Ability to lift and handle steel materials and work in both shop and field conditions


• Ability to work at heights when field work requires it


• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed


• Must be able to successfully pass a background check as a condition of employment and as required for access to certain project sites


• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, quality fabrication


• Dependable, safety-minded, and able to work effectively as part of a fabrication and field team
