Job description

JOB SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Welding Lead, the responsibilities of the Welder / Fabricator include fitting and joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other weldable materials by applying appropriate welding techniques in accordance with product specifications and production schedules. The Welder works in coordination with the Shift Supervisor and management to ensure products are welded to specifications and meet outlined requirements. Consistent production of quality UT passable welds and maintaining production levels as determined by the supervisor are essential.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High School Diploma or GED required. A minimum of 1-2 years welding experience is necessary. An equivalent combination of education and experience is acceptable. Overhead and Jib crane experience is needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Passing 2G test, T-Joint test, and Carbon Air Arc test results
  • Knowledge of various welding concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Understanding of welding symbols, diagrams, blueprints, and printed instructions
  • Ability to operate welding equipment such as torches, torch tips, and Air Arc
  • Ability to use temperature sticks and welding fillet gauges
  • Ability to weld with flux core and metal core wire
  • Ability to work in extreme temperatures
  • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed
  • Successful completion of a Welder test, background check, drug screen, physical, audiogram, and vision test

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Perform welding duties using a wire welder
  • Weld steel components according to layouts, drawings, work orders, or instructions
  • Weld in various directions: flat and horizontal
  • Set up, lay out, and fabricate parts or rework finished products
  • Collaborate with fitters/welders for multi-component fabrication
  • Operate forklifts, hoists, hand tools, grinders, cutting torches, and related equipment
  • Inspect and correct welds to meet specifications
  • Examine work for defects and measure to ensure conformance
  • Perform specific tasks such as clamping, tack-welding, grinding, and bolting
  • Read and follow job orders, specifications, and drawings
  • Cross-train and perform other related tasks
  • Maintain equipment functionality and quality welds
  • Maintain production levels and safety standards
  • Operate equipment safely and responsibly

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Up to 2 years welding or related experience
  • Ability to read blueprints and welding symbols
  • Basic math skills and ability to read a tape measure

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Shop environment with exposure to extreme temperatures
  • No travel required
  • Standing for 8-10 hours, 7 days a week
  • Good vision, hearing, smell, and balance
  • Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, climb stairs/ladders
  • Use of OSHA-approved PPE, including welding hood

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Minimal physical exertion; primarily sitting during an 8-10 hour shift

CONTINUING EDUCATION

Employees are expected to participate in required training and self-initiated educational activities to enhance skills. Mandatory safety training and exams are part of ongoing requirements.
