Job summary

Rite-Hite is seeking a Welder II to lay out, fit, and weld metal components for door products and assemblies. You will read blueprints, select welding methods (arc, MIG, TIG, and gas), and ensure parts meet engineering specifications and quality standards.

This role supports continuous improvement, keeps work areas safe, and may fill in for other division roles. An associate degree or 6+ months of related experience is expected, with forklift operation preferred.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or six months to one year related experience.
  • Proficient in MIG, TIG, arc, and spot welding; torch and plasma equipment.
  • Ability to read blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and material-handling equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Cut, fit, bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts for assemblies.

  • Troubleshoot welding and mechanical issues across models.
  • Maintain inventory and help with work orders.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment.

Job description

JOB TITLE: Welder II

Purpose This position is responsible for the layout, fitting, and welding of metal components used in the manufacturing of door products and related assemblies. The role ensures the timely delivery of high-quality welded parts, supports continuous improvement, and maintains an efficient and safe production environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Interpret blueprints, work orders, and pick lists to plan, lay out, align, and weld metal components to engineering specifications.
  • Select and set up appropriate equipment, materials, and welding techniques (arc, MIG, TIG, and gas welding).
  • Cut, fit, bolt, clamp, and tack-weld parts to secure assemblies for final welding.
  • Operate punch presses, plasma cutters, torches, forklifts, hoists, and cranes as required.
  • Repair, disassemble, assemble, straighten, sharpen, and reshape metal parts and products.
  • Manufacture or repair non-production items such as racks, carts, tables, and fixtures.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, assembly, electrical, and welding issues across various models.
  • Participate in weekly equipment maintenance plans and perform basic machine upkeep.
  • Maintain accurate inventory of materials, equipment, and work orders.
  • Ensure parts meet quality and safety standards while actively supporting continuous improvement processes.
  • Fill in for other roles within the division when needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Principal Accountabilities
  • Timely fabrication and delivery of welded components meeting quality specifications.
  • Adherence to company quality systems, safety procedures, and production goals.
  • Contribution to process improvements and maintaining a high level of customer satisfaction.
Education and Experience
  • Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or six months to one year of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Qualifications
  • Proficient in MIG, TIG, arc, and spot welding, as well as torch and plasma equipment.
  • Skilled at reading and interpreting blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Ability to operate forklifts and related material-handling equipment.
Language Skills
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Capable of writing routine reports and effectively communicating with team members and supervisors.
Mathematical Skills
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry to measure, calculate, and verify tolerances.
Reasoning Ability
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret written, oral, and schematic instructions.
  • Adaptable to changing priorities with minimal standardization.
Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, handle materials, and use hands with precision.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 100 pounds.
  • Must have close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment capability.
Work Environment
  • Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and extreme heat.
  • Occasional exposure to toxic or caustic chemicals, electrical shock risk, and vibration.
  • Noise levels range from moderate to loud; personal protective equipment is required.
