Job summary

Prime Metal Buildings & Components in Texas is seeking a Welder to read blueprints and shop drawings and perform MIG welding on prefabbed structural steel for diverse engineering projects. The role requires interpreting drawings, selecting tools, operating welding equipment, inspecting welds for quality, and adhering to safety protocols while collaborating with the production team.

Qualifications

  • Pass 1G Limited Weld Test.
  • Experience in manufacturing/fabrication is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read and follow safety rules and procedures.
  • Team player with a positive attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Study and interpret drawings or blueprints to understand structural welding requirements.
  • Perform MIG welding process.
  • Select appropriate welding tools and equipment based on the job requirements.
  • Operate grinder to prepare and finish welds.
  • Operate beam rotators, beam transfers, or other machines as required.
  • Operate magnetic drill or other tools as required.
  • Inspect completed welds to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Detect and correct defects in welds, such as porosity or incomplete penetration.
  • Perform maintenance, troubleshoot repairs, and detect flaws in equipment as needed.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and procedures and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Collaborate with other team members to achieve production goals.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

SUMMARY:

Our Welder is responsible for reading blueprints and shop drawings to perform welding related work orders on prefabbed structural steel for various engineering jobs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Study and interpret drawings or blueprints to understand structural welding requirements.
  • Perform MIG welding process.
  • Select appropriate welding tools and equipment based on the job requirements.
  • Operate grinder to prepare and finish welds.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Must be able to pass a 1G Limited Weld Test.
  • Prior experience in manufacturing/fabrication shop is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Positive attitude and desire to work as a team player.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods of time.
  • Lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50lbs regularly and up to 75lbs occasionally with assistance.
  • Frequent use of hands and arms to handle materials, tools, and welding equipment.
  • Ability to kneel, crouch, climb, or work in awkward positions to complete welds.
  • Visual acuity to read measurements, inspect welds, and maintain quality standards.
  • Exposure to welding fumes, bright light (arc flash), heat, sparks, and airborne particles.
  • Everyday use of PPE including flame-resistant clothing, welding helmet, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, and safety-toe boots.
  • Climate conditions vary in production areas from hot in the summer to cold in the winter.
