Job summary

Kehoe Designs in Chicago, IL is seeking a Welder to build and construct props and furniture for events according to design specifications. You will work with the welding staff to ensure production flows and deadlines are met.

You will prepare props for events, wrap and finish surfaces, assist with inventory, and maintain a safe, organized shop environment while applying MIG, TIG, and SMAW welding techniques.

Qualifications

• Welding experience preferred.
• Must understand, read and speak simple English.
• Good verbal communication with Warehouse team.
• Ability to interpret pull sheets.
• Familiarity with proper packing methods is helpful.
• Provide tools for shift: wire cutter and utility knife.
• Knowledge of welding equipment (MIG, TIG, SMAW) is expected.
• Flexibility to work evenings and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Welds builds and constructs props and furniture per design specs.

The Welder is responsible for building and constructing props and furniture for events and the company. The Welder reports to the Warehouse Manager and takes direction from the Warehouse Assistant Manager, Warehouse Lead, and Welding Shop Lead.

Essential Duties | What You'll Do - The Fun Stuff

• Type of welding we do at Kehoe Designs
  • Mig-gas metal/aluminum/cast iron arch welding
  • Tig-gas metal/aluminum/brass/copper stainless steel arc welding
  • Shielded metal arc welding
• Welds builds, and constructs custom props and furniture according to design specifications.
• Works with welding staff to ensure production flows smoothly and the welding shop meets established production deadlines.
• Prepares props and furniture for events including but not limited to wrapping fabric and vinyl, drilling holes, bolting, hammering, and hand and spray painting.
• Assists in managing supplies/inventory to include making sure supplies/inventory are in stock according to production needs and are used efficiently, organized, and stored appropriately.
• Wraps furniture and props for delivery.
• Cleans and sweeps workspace to ensure the workspace is organized, safe, and free from obstacles and debris.
• Level 2 Welders require more extensive welding knowledge and experience and take on increasingly complex and complicated welding projects.

• Familiarity with proper packing methods is helpful.
• Must be able to provide the following tools for use during the work shift: wire cutter and utility knife.
• Good knowledge and ability to use tools and equipment that may include: Welding machine, band saw, pipe bender, grinder, portable band saw, torch, press drill, drills, hammer, screwdriver, hand drill, tape measure, dollies, and 8 foot and 12 foot ladders.
• Ability to work flexible schedules to include evenings and weekends.

Physical and Work Environment Requirements |What it is Like in the Shop

• Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, bend, and reach during the entire work shift.
• Able to walk 30% of the work shift.
• Ability to work with hands and arms during the entire shift.
• Must be able to move and climb ladders without accommodation.
• Must have ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 30-40 lbs. throughout the shift. Occasionally may move up to and over 100 lbs. with assistance.
• Ability to handle metal and fragile items safely.
• Must have 20/20 vision with correction.
• Must be able to tolerate cold, heat, and humid conditions.
• May be exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals throughout the work shift.
• Ability to tolerate moderate noise.

• Hourly wage and o vertime pay will be provided for hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek at 1.5x the regular rate of pay, in compliance with Illinois labor laws.
