Job summary

MEC in Bedford is seeking a skilled Welding Technician to support manufacturing operations on the floor. You will troubleshoot welding processes, ensure weld quality, and maintain accurate process documentation on site in a fast-paced setting.

The role requires 3 years of welding experience, strong blueprint interpretation, and a commitment to safety and high-quality workmanship. The job includes training operators and supporting launches and continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications

  • Troubleshoots welding processes, tooling, and equipment and suggests corrective actions.
  • Notifies production leaders of process improvements and workflow deviations.
  • Performs on-floor checks to verify weld compliance and capability.
  • Maintains welding process documents and ensures up-to-date workstation documentation.
  • Runs capability studies and documents results.
  • Trains manufacturing personnel on process changes.
  • Assists in launches by handling sample parts and new jobs through production; quarantines and inspects as needed.
  • Analyzes scrap and rework and suggests corrective action.
  • Assists weld operators and welders.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Skills Requirements

  • Physical stamina to work in various positions for extended periods.

Educational Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent education required.

Experience Requirements

  • Three years professional welding experience in the manufacturing industry.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Some physical demand. Often lifts light to heavy-weight material. Frequent lifting/moving average weight (up to 50 lbs/11-27 kgs) material.
  • Ability to perform occasional to frequent pushing, pulling, bending, kneeling, twisting, crawling, and/or reaching over a full work shift (8-12 hours).
  • Ability to operate machinery over a full work shift (8-12 hours).
  • Ability to stand and / or walk constantly over a full work shift on concrete (8-12 hours).
  • May be exposed to noise levels for which hearing protection must be worn over a full work shift (8-12 hours).
