Job description

Description

This position is responsible for excellence in welding, fabrication, cutting, fitting, and brazing metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment. Additionally, the Welder will operate a drill press and perform all job duties safely and on time while upholding C&W quality standards and company values.

Essential Duties
  • Reviews details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
  • Reads, understands, interprets, and executes to engineering drawings (prints).
  • Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding (of 0.35 hard wire) techniques and equipment.
  • Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
  • Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
  • Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
  • Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
  • Participates in activities and exercises in support of C&W production and safety initiatives.
  • Follows all applicable policies and procedures.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Education

High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred. Completion of formal welding apprenticeship preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Welding certification from an accredited college or institution preferred.

Experience

Minimum of 6 months of welding experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment preferred.

Skills
  • Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
  • Basic fabrication, fitting, welding (0.35 hard wire), cutting, and drill press operation skills.
  • Strong understanding of drawings (prints) and the ability to read and complete paperwork.
  • Basic understanding of design techniques, principles, and tools necessary for the precise production of technical plans, drawings, models, and blueprints.
  • Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
  • Basic understanding of mathematics as related to welding assignments.

Work Environment

The Welder will work in a manufacturing facility subject to indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, with exposure to occasional temperatures below 32 degrees or above 100 degrees. The noise level in the environment may be moderate to loud.
