Job summary

The County of Volusia in DeLand, Florida seeks a Trades Worker (Weld Shop Technician) for the Road and Bridge Division to perform semi-skilled tasks, including maintenance and repair of machinery, welding, fabrication, concrete and pipe work.

Requirements include a High School diploma or GED with two years of related experience, and a valid CDL – Class A at hire and within 30 days. Ability to work with limited supervision and relocate as needed is expected.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED and two years of experience in building maintenance, plumbing repair, carpentry, electrical, concrete, small engine repair, or mechanical pipe installation and repair.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) – Class A at the time of hire.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Florida Commercial Driver’s License – Class A within thirty (30) days of hire.
• A comparable amount of education, training, or experience may be substituted for the minimum experience.

Responsibilities

• Performs or assists with fabrication and welding tasks.
• Performs small engine repairs and operates power and hydraulic hand tools.
• May install and repair underground drainage piping, structures, and restoration.
• May perform concrete work (sidewalks, driveways, free form, etc.).
• Operates vehicles and equipment, including tractors, front loaders, mini excavators, skid loaders, forklifts, dump trucks, and various trailers.
• Responds to emergency situations.
• Attends work on a regular and consistent basis.
