Job description

Description

About Bentley Mission Critical

Bentley Mission Critical manufactures factory-built infrastructure for the world’s most demanding data centers. From our ISO 9001:2015 certified facility in Greeley, Colorado, we engineer, fabricate, and test complete modular data center systems — pre-integrating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems in a controlled factory environment to deliver projects 30–50% faster than traditional construction. Our customers include hyperscale, AI/GPU compute, colocation, and enterprise data center operators. We don’t build projects — we manufacture products, and we do it quality-driven, on time, every time.

Position Summary

Bentley Mission Critical is seeking a detail-driven Weld Quality Assurance Inspector to serve as the final line of defense for product quality. The core mission of this role is simple and non-negotiable: no defective weld leaves the building. The inspector verifies that every weldment meets drawing requirements, applicable codes, and customer specifications before it ships, and owns the documentation, inspection records, and non-conformance process that prove it.

This is a hands‑on quality role with stop‑work authority. The inspector partners with welders, fabricators, supervisors, and project managers to catch issues early, drive corrective action, and continuously raise the quality bar across the shop and in the field.

Primary Accountability:

Ensure that zero non-conforming weldments are released to the customer. The inspector is empowered and expected to hold or reject any work that does not meet requirements.

2nd Shift Hours: 2:00pm-10:30pm

*Must be 18 years or older to apply*

Key Responsibilities
Inspection & Defect Prevention
  • Perform first-article, in-process, and final review (visual inspection) of fit-up, in-process welds, and completed weldments against drawings, weld maps, and WPS requirements.
  • Verify dimensional checks, fit-up tolerances, joint preparation, and weld profiles using calibrated measuring tools and weld gauges.
  • Inspect welds for discontinuities such as cracks, porosity, undercut, incomplete fusion, lack of penetration, overlap, spatter, and arc strikes.
  • Apply visual acceptance criteria and make clear pass/fail determinations; reject work that does not conform to the governing code or specification.
  • Exercise stop-work / hold authority on any weldment that does not meet requirements until it is corrected and re-inspected, and confirm that no product moves to shipping without final QA sign-off.
  • Coordinate and interpret non-destructive examination (MT, PT, UT, RT) and witness or review NDE results, ensuring the correct method and coverage are applied per the spec.
Documentation & Records
  • Maintain complete, legible, and traceable inspection records, daily inspection reports, weld maps, and travelers for every job.
  • Verify and document traceability of material test reports (MTRs), heat numbers, and consumable certifications to confirm correct materials and filler metals were used.
  • Confirm that welder qualifications, Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR) are current and on file for the work being performed.
  • Ensure inspection and test plans (ITPs), hold points, and witness points are followed and signed off in sequence.
  • Keep all inspection and quality records organized, retrievable, and ready for customer or third-party audit at any time.
Non-Conformance & Corrective Action
  • Initiate and write Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) clearly documenting the defect, location, affected quantity, and root cause where known.
  • Track NCRs through disposition (rework, repair, use-as-is, or scrap) with the Quality Manager, engineering, and the customer as required.
  • Re-inspect repairs and reworked welds to verify the issue is fully resolved before the part is accepted.
  • Identify recurring defects and quality trends, and support root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive action (CAPA) to prevent repeat issues.
  • Log and report inspection data and quality metrics (defect rates, repair rates, NCR counts) to leadership.
Collaboration & Continuous Improvement
  • Communicate directly with welders and fabricators on defects, acceptance criteria, and best practices in a constructive, training-oriented way.
  • Support calibration of inspection and measuring equipment and ensure gauges are within calibration.
  • Participate in internal audits, customer inspections, and third-party / code audits.
  • Recommend improvements to inspection processes, checklists, and quality documentation to strengthen the “no defects leave the building” standard.
Codes, Standards & Specifications

The inspector will work to the applicable code(s) for each job, which may include:

  • AWS D1.1 (Structural Welding Code – Steel): Structural steel fabrication and welding.
  • ASME B31.3 and ASME Section IX: Process piping and pressure welding, including welder/procedure qualification.
  • ASME Section VIII Div. 1
  • Plus: Customer specifications, project drawings, and approved WPS/PQR documentation.
Authority & Reporting

This position carries the authority to stop work, place product on hold, and reject non-conforming weldments. The Weld QA Inspector reports inspection results, non-conformances, and quality concerns directly to the Quality Manager and escalates issues that affect schedule, cost, or customer commitments.
