Job summary

Technical Metal Specialties in New Berlin, WI, is seeking a Weld Lead to supervise welding operations, set up and weld parts, and uphold safety and quality standards on complex fabrication projects.

You will lead a team of welders, interpret blueprints, and ensure timely completion while maintaining strict process controls and inspection criteria. A strong focus on quality and safety is essential for success in this role.

Qualifications

• Welding knowledge and ability to read instructions and procedures.
• GMAW welding certification or ability to obtain testing.
• Read and follow work instructions, procedures, and quality requirements.
• Read/interpret drawings and welding specs.
• Use basic measuring/layout tools accurately.
• Attention to detail and commitment to quality welds.
• 1–3 months welding experience or training preferred.
• Technical college welding diploma/certificate preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding operations on repetitive weldments and structures following procedures and work instructions.
• Adjust and regulate welding machines within defined WPS ranges to achieve proper penetration and weld quality.
• Fit, align, and position parts using fixtures, jigs, etching, or approved methods.
• Use basic measuring tools to verify dimensions and alignment.
• Apply welding fundamentals and approved techniques to complete work accurately.
• Maintain weld quality in accordance with process requirements and final inspection standards.
• Complete required quality, department, ISO procedure, and welder certification requirements.

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Weld Lead to oversee and coordinate welding operations on shop. In this pivotal role, you will lead a team of welders, ensuring all welding activities adhere to safety standards, quality specifications, and project timelines. This role requires the ability to set up, fit, position, and weld parts using fixtures, jigs, gauges, and basic measuring tools while maintaining safe work practices and producing welds that meet process and final inspection standards. Your expertise in various welding techniques, blueprint interpretation, and mechanical fabrication will drive the success of our projects. This position offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your leadership skills while working with diverse metal materials and complex fabrication tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform welding operations on repetitive weldments and structures following prescribed procedures and work instructions.
• Adjust and regulate welding machines within defined WPS ranges to achieve proper penetration, fill, weld quality, and performance.
• Fit, align, and position parts using welding fixtures, jigs, etching, or other approved methods.
• Use basic measuring tools, including rules, squares, protractors, templates, and fixed gauges, to verify dimensions and alignment.
• Apply basic welding fundamentals and approved techniques to complete assigned work accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain weld quality in accordance with process requirements, final inspection standards, and test criteria.
• Complete required quality, department, ISO procedure, and welder certification requirements

Skills

• High school diploma or GED/HSED required.
• Basic knowledge of welding principles, techniques, and equipment operation.
• GMAW welding certification or ability to complete required welder certification testing.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, welding procedures, and quality requirements.
• Ability to use basic measuring and layout tools accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality welds.
• Ability to work independently on repetitive tasks while meeting inspection and production expectations.
• One to three months of related welding experience or training preferred.
• Technical college diploma or certificate in welding preferred but not required.
