Job summary

Technical Metal Specialties is seeking a highly skilled Weld Lead to oversee welding operations in New Berlin, WI. You will lead a team of welders, ensure safety, quality, and timely project completion, and mentor trainees in welding techniques and blueprint interpretation.

Ideal candidates have English/Spanish bilingual ability, GMAW certification, and a proven track record of coordinating shop-floor activities with a focus on process and final inspection standards.

Qualifications

• Must have high school diploma or GED and welding certification or equivalent training.
• Bilingual English/Spanish is preferred to communicate with team and customers.
• Experience leading weld teams and ensuring adherence to procedures and safety standards.
• Ability to read welding procedures and blueprints and follow quality requirements.
• Proficient with basic measuring tools and fixture usage.

Responsibilities

• Oversee welding operations and coordinate welders to meet schedules.
• Train and mentor welders on techniques, safety, blueprint reading, and quality.
• Ensure compliance with weld procedures, WPS, and customer specs at all times.
• Assign daily work, prioritize, and support production timelines.
• Perform in-process checks and address issues before final inspection.
• Communicate equipment, material, or quality concerns to supervision.
• Adjust welding machines within WPS ranges to achieve proper penetration and weld quality.
• Fit, align, and position parts using fixtures and approved methods.
• Verify dimensions with basic measuring tools and ensure process quality.
• Complete required quality, ISO, and welder certification requirements.

Technical Metal Specialties is looking to expand their team at New Berlin, WI.

Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Weld Lead to oversee and coordinate welding operations on shop. In this pivotal role, you will lead a team of welders, ensuring all welding activities adhere to safety standards, quality specifications, and project timelines. This role requires the ability to set up, fit, position, and weld parts using fixtures, jigs, gauges, and basic measuring tools while maintaining safe work practices and producing welds that meet process and final inspection standards. Your expertise in various welding techniques, blueprint interpretation, and mechanical fabrication will drive the success of our projects. This position offers an exciting opportunity to showcase your leadership skills while working with diverse metal materials and complex fabrication tasks.

Essential duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

• Perform welding operations on repetitive weldments and structures following prescribed procedures and work instructions.
• Train, coach, and mentor welders on proper welding techniques, safe work practices, blueprint reading, fixture use, and quality expectations.
• Ensure welders follow approved weld procedures, work instructions, WPS requirements, and customer specifications at all times.
• Assist with daily work assignments, prioritize jobs, and coordinate workflow to support production schedules and project timelines.
• Perform in-process weld checks and provide feedback to welders to correct fit-up, penetration, appearance, or dimensional issues before final inspection.
• Communicate equipment, material, documentation, or quality concerns to supervision and support corrective actions as needed.
• Adjust and regulate welding machines within defined WPS ranges to achieve proper penetration, fill, weld quality, and performance.
• Fit, align, and position parts using welding fixtures, jigs, etching, or other approved methods.
• Use basic measuring tools, including rules, squares, protractors, templates, and fixed gauges, to verify dimensions and alignment.
• Apply basic welding fundamentals and approved techniques to complete assigned work accurately and efficiently.
• Maintain weld quality in accordance with process requirements, final inspection standards, and test criteria.
• Complete required quality, department, ISO procedure, and welder certification requirements

Qualifications And Education Requirements

• High school diploma or GED/HSED required.
• Basic knowledge of welding principles, techniques, and equipment operation.
• GMAW welding certification or ability to complete required welder certification testing.
• Ability to read and follow work instructions, welding procedures, and quality requirements.
• Ability to use basic measuring and layout tools accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality welds.
• Ability to work independently on repetitive tasks while meeting inspection and production expectations.
• One to three months of related welding experience or training preferred.
• Technical college diploma or certificate in welding preferred but not required.
• Bilingual: English/Spanish (preferred)
