Job summary

AUTOKINITON is seeking a Welding Engineer to drive excellence on corporate strategic welding projects in our Michigan facility. You will develop welding technologies for new product requirements and support operations with equipment knowledge, robotics, and related systems.

You will lead weld process development, assist quality assurance in maintaining weld integrity, and train team members while collaborating across departments to resolve issues and support new model launches.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a four-year college or university.
• 3–5 years of related experience and/or training.
• Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Provide training and mentorship to welding engineers and technicians.
• Support new model launches and capability runs.
• Participate in 8D problem solving and department meetings.

Job description

To help us drive excellence, you’ll get to:

• Works on Corporate strategic projects.
• Develop new welding technologies related to new products requirement.
• Support Operations in acquiring the needed level of equipment knowledge.
• Provide key input into the development of departmental strategic goals along with identifying key measurable to support the departmental goals.
• Specify welding equipment, welding consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic systems, and any related components associated with the welding process.
• Assist in development of the weld quality control process.
• Guides design develops and tests welding methods, materials, processes and results.
• Assist Quality Assurance department in maintaining weld integrity. Interface with manufacturing and maintenance to resolve welding and welding system issues.
• Assist with MRO crib activities.
• Support project engineering on new and existing programs.
• Assist in the integration, start-up and debug of plant floor welding equipment.
• Champion assigned engineering changes, communicate and coordinate accordingly to all departments.
• Train, coach and mentor the welding process for weld engineers, manufacturing and skilled trades colleagues.
• Direct and/or participate in root cause analysis and team problem solving activities (ex. 8D reports, department meetings, etc.).
• Review and resolve all weld cut and etch and destruct related issues.
• Support new model launches and improvement teams.
• Support tool tryouts at supplier and in-house capability runs.
• Other duties as assigned.

This full-time salary-exempt role is a part of our corporate engineering team and reports to the Weld Engineering Manager.

Required experience:

• Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; three to five years plus related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Ability to work with Microsoft Office at an intermediate level
