Job summary

Marand is seeking a highly motivated Weld Engineer for its new Fort Worth facility. The role develops and qualifies welding procedures, supports production, and ensures compliance with aerospace standards.

You will lead process development, select equipment, and collaborate with Quality, NDT, and Design teams to enable efficient production and certification of welded assemblies.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of welding engineering experience in aerospace, defense, automotive, heavy manufacturing, or regulated industries.
  • Certified Welding Engineer (CWE) or Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
  • Experience with AWS D17.1 Aerospace Welding Code.
  • Knowledge of ASME Section IX welding requirements.
  • Experience supporting NADCAP welding accreditation requirements.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD, DoD, and aerospace customer specifications.
  • Experience with robotic or automated welding systems, desirable.
  • Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma certification, desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, qualify, implement, and maintain welding procedures, work instructions, and process controls per customer, military, aerospace, and internal requirements.
  • Create, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).
  • Lead welding process development, validation, and qualification activities for new products, technologies, and programs.
  • Evaluate and recommend welding equipment, consumables, tooling, fixturing, and joining technologies to improve manufacturing performance.
  • Provide technical support for welding and joining processes including GTAW (TIG), GMAW (MIG), Resistance Welding, Friction Stir Welding, Brazing and automated welding systems.
  • Support production operations by resolving welding-related manufacturing issues and providing engineering solutions.
  • Review engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements to ensure manufacturing feasibility and compliance.
  • Support production readiness reviews, rate increases, and transition from development to production.
  • Ensure welding processes and products comply with customer requirements, aerospace standards, military specifications, and quality management system requirements.
  • Monitor welding process performance and quality metrics to drive process control and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with Quality and NDT personnel to establish appropriate inspection methods and acceptance criteria.
  • Support First Article Inspections (FAI), source inspections, customer audits, AS9100 audits, and NADCAP accreditation activities.
  • Investigate weld-related nonconformances, escapes, and customer complaints.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies to improve process capability.
  • Analyse welding process capability data and implement process optimization initiatives to reduce defect rates and improve throughput.

About the Role

We are looking for highly motivated Weld Engineer to work in our new facility in Fort Worth, Texas who will be responsible for developing, qualifying, implementing, and improving welding processes used in the manufacturing of aerospace and defense products. This position provides technical expertise in welding and joining technologies, ensuring compliance with customer specifications, industry standards, and regulatory requirements while supporting production efficiency, quality, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Weld Engineer works closely with Manufacturing, Quality, Program Management, Supply Chain, and customers to ensure welded assemblies meet performance, structural integrity, and certification requirements.

Welding Process Development & Qualification

  • Develop, qualify, implement, and maintain welding procedures, work instructions, and process controls in accordance with customer, military, aerospace, AWS, ASME, and internal requirements.
  • Create, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Performance Qualifications (WPQ).

Lead welding process development, validation, and qualification activities for new products, technologies, and programs.

  • Evaluate and recommend welding equipment, consumables, tooling, fixturing, and joining technologies to improve manufacturing performance.

  • Conduct root cause analysis using structured problem-solving tools and implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity.
  • Utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, PFMEA, Control Plans, and Statistical Process Control (SPC) methodologies to improve process capability.
  • Analyse welding process capability data and implement process optimization initiatives to reduce defect rates and improve throughput.

Technical Leadership & Training

  • Serve as the subject matter expert (SME) for welding processes, metallurgy, and joining technologies.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and mentorship to welders, inspectors, manufacturing personnel, and engineering teams.
  • Support development and maintenance of welding certification programs and operator qualifications.
  • Collaborate with Design Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, and Program Management to support program execution and customer deliverables.
  • Participate in design reviews to ensure weldability, manufacturability, and compliance with aerospace and defense requirements.
  • Support supplier qualification, process audits, and technical evaluations of subcontracted welding operations.
  • Provide welding-related cost estimates, risk assessments, and technical input for proposals and new business opportunities.
Desired Skills and Experience
