Job description

Weld County Youth Conservation Corps Crew Member (Driver)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Transporting crews to and from the project site
  2. Invasive species and hazard tree removal as a sawyer and/or a swamper
  3. Pesticide application
  4. In-home water assessments, installation of aerators, shower heads, and toilets
  5. Abide by WCYCC policies and procedures and maintain safety
  6. Maintain a positive attitude and reflect strong service ethic

Ability To:

  1. Serve in unpredictable weather and potentially harsh environmental conditions
  2. Communicate effectively with fellow corps members, crew leader, program staff, and community members
  3. Problem solve in a variety of settings and with a diverse group of people
  4. Demonstrate sound judgment/risk management skills
  5. Service term may require attendance during the evenings and weekends as necessary (Camping for 3+ weeks)

Qualifications:

  1. MUST BE 18 – 30 YEARS OLD TO APPLY
  2. Willing to undergo and must pass required criminal history checks
  3. Possess a valid driver license with insurable driving record required
  4. Must be able to pass a drug screening
  5. U.S. citizen, U.S. National, or lawful permanent resident
  6. Received or on track to receive high school diploma or GED
  7. Have reliable transportation to and from service base

Experience:

  1. Serving in a team environment
  2. Performing conservation-related service, or general labor tasks
  3. Comfortable with power tools and serving in a hazardous environment
  4. Familiar with towing equipment and driving a vehicle with multiple passengers

Physical Requirements:

  1. Able to lift 75+ lbs. alone and as a team
  2. Ability to use/handle picks, sledgehammers, rakes, and shovels
  3. Ability to transverse uneven terrain
  4. Ability to bend, stoop, stretch, twist, or to squat to perform tasks
  5. Service term will require strenuous physical engagement, personal motivation, and perseverance

Member Duties: A Conservation Crew Member designated as a driver will be responsible for transportation of their fellow crew members and Corps’ equipment in addition to all responsibilities of their fellow conservation crew members. Crew member’s primary focus will be invasive tree species removal using a chainsaw, pesticide application, and the possibility of participating in the WCYCC Flush and Flow water conservation program. Additional community service opportunities may take place during your term of service. Personal/professional development provides training and certificates, career exploration, experience in a team-based environment, effective communication, and personal and professional skills development.
