Job summary

NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY seeks a Weight Handling Equipment Inspector/Mechanic within the Research and Development Service Division, Code 3523.5. You will perform inspections, tests, and evaluations to ensure proper operation of WHE systems.

The role requires supervising crane inspectors, equipment mechanics, crane operators, and riggers, and applying OPM qualifications for trades and labor occupations.

Qualifications

• Experience performing inspections and evaluating equipment operation.
• Ability to direct crane inspectors and riggers.
• Familiarity with major mechanical components such as gearboxes, brakes, bearings, shafts, wire ropes.
• Must meet OPM qualifications for trades and labor occupations.

Your resume must demonstrate the following: I have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including

• 1) Performing operational tests for inspections to evaluate proper equipment operation
• 2) Directing the activities of crane inspectors, equipment mechanics, crane operators, and riggers
• 3) Inspecting, repairing, and examining major mechanical units and component parts such as gearboxes, brake systems, bearings, external gears, shafts, wire ropes, load chains, hydraulic cylinders, and other mechanical integral units of WHE for proper operation
• 4) Evaluating equipment designs, alterations, and modifications
