Job summary

NAVAL RESEARCH LABORATORY seeks a Weight Handling Equipment Inspector/Mechanic within the Research and Development Service Division, Code 3523.5. You will perform inspections, tests, and evaluations to ensure proper operation of WHE systems.

The role requires supervising crane inspectors, equipment mechanics, crane operators, and riggers, and applying OPM qualifications for trades and labor occupations.

Qualifications

• Experience performing inspections and evaluating equipment operation.
• Ability to direct crane inspectors and riggers.
• Familiarity with major mechanical components such as gearboxes, brakes, bearings, shafts, wire ropes.
• Must meet OPM qualifications for trades and labor occupations.

Responsibilities

• Perform operational tests for inspections to evaluate proper equipment operation.
• Direct the activities of crane inspectors, equipment mechanics, crane operators, and riggers.
• Inspect, repair, and examine major mechanical units and components for proper operation.
• Evaluate equipment designs, alterations, and modifications.
