Job summary

Gerdau in Petersburg, VA is hiring a Truck Scale Services Clerk to support safe movement of scrap materials. You will weigh inbound/outbound trucks and railcars, process scale transactions, and maintain shipping records.

The role requires attention to detail, strong organization, and the ability to work a fast-paced environment. You will monitor radiation detection equipment, report alarms, and assist drivers with communications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 1-3 years of manufacturing, industrial, logistics, or shipping/receiving experience preferred.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic computer systems.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and communication skills.
• Ability to analyze information, solve problems, and follow established procedures.
• Ability to work in a very fast-paced environment and multi-tasking is a must.

Responsibilities

• Serve as weighmaster for all inbound and outbound trucks, trailers, and railcars.
• Process scale transactions and maintain accurate records, including truck weights, bills of lading, contracts, and shipping documents.
• Monitor and respond to radiation detection equipment in accordance with company procedures.
• Document and report radiation alarms and communicate with appropriate personnel when required.
• Enter scale tickets and maintain accurate inventory and shipment records.
• Visually inspect incoming scrap for grade and quality.
• Provide support to drivers, answer phones, and communicate operational updates via email, radio, and phone.
• Complete month-end tasks and support the Raw Materials Supervisor as needed.
• Help ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and operational procedures.
• Ensure all drivers have been informed of and adhere to proper PPE requirements.
• Manage the work area by keeping all paperwork processed and neatly filed as well as maintaining cleanliness and orderliness of scale house and workstations.
