Job summary

UR Thompson Health is seeking a part-time Surgical Scrub Tech to assist the surgeon and first assistant, maintain a sterile field, and ensure instruments and supplies are available during Saturday and Sunday shifts.

The role offers a weekend schedule, on-call opportunities, a pay range of $26.75–$34.00 per hour based on experience, and benefits including health/dental/vision insurance, tuition reimbursement, retirement plan, and paid time off.

Qualifications

• National Surgical Technology certification or NYS LPN license required or grandfathered.
• BLS Certification required.
• Previous experience as a surgical scrub tech strongly preferred; LPN without OR experience not hired.
• On‑call requirements as needed based on unit needs.

Responsibilities

• Assist the Surgeon & First Assistant during surgery by maintaining a sterile environment and ensuring instruments/supplies are available.
• Apply knowledge of sterile technique, surgical instruments and procedures.
• Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with surgical team members.
• During weekend shifts, perform quality assurance work, prep and stock areas when surgeries are not occurring.
• Prepare for each assigned case to ensure a safe and efficient environment.
• Act as an active member of the surgical team.
• Effectively clear the operating room following the case to maintain overall efficiency.
• Maintain an optimal perioperative environment to meet patient needs.
• Provide quality care based on current nursing research and quality improvement monitoring results.
