Job summary

Hunger Mountain Co-op in Montpelier, VT is seeking a Produce Assistant Buyer & Receiver to support the Produce Buyer in meeting department goals and ensuring fresh, well-displayed produce for customers. The position is part-time (16 hours) with a Fri-Sat 6:00am–2:00pm shift, reporting to the Produce Manager.

Responsibilities include buying, receiving, merchandising, and daily operations. Candidate should have prior retail produce experience, strong numerical ability, and familiarity with Excel

Qualifications

• Prior retail produce experience is required and preferred for ordering and merchandising responsibilities.
• Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail are essential for accurate pricing and data handling.
• Familiarity with computers and Microsoft Office, including Excel, is expected.

Responsibilities

• Follow department policies to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Maintain workplace safety by following rules and reporting concerns.
• Assist buyer with daily orders and inventory for produce with guidance from the Produce Manager.
• Receive deliveries, check quality and accuracy, rotate stock, and document discrepancies.
• Assist with displays, labeling, signing, and maintaining signage and pricing in POS.
• Help customers and co-workers, stock shelves, and participate in inventory tasks.
• Provide produce information to staff and customers and assist with special orders.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Produce Manager.
