Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner to provide patient care in the Moores Cancer Center Infusion Center, including management of toxicities and adverse reactions to IV therapies. The NP works under assigned oncologists with emphasis on solid and hematologic cancers and participates in clinical trials as needed.

This role involves Same-Day Cancer Services, collaboration with a multidisciplinary team, and education of patients and families.

Qualifications

• Must be a graduate from an accredited nurse practitioner program.
• California RN license, California NP license, and Furnishing License Certification.
• National NP board certification in aligned specialty with the practice area.
• Current ART certification, or BLS/CPR and ACLS certifications at time of hire with commitment to get ART within six (6) months of hire date.
• Two or more years of recent work experience as a licensed NP in hematology oncology, oncology infusion, or non-oncology infusion.
• Demonstrated knowledge of common diagnostic tests, exams, and procedures used in a clinic setting.
• Must understand purpose, required supplies and/or equipment, to maintain infection control, an accurate documentation of medical chart.
• Demonstrates advanced clinical judgment and critical thinking skills to assess and manage patients in an oncologic outpatient setting.
• Demonstrates ability to independently manage patients in a fast-paced setting, using evidence-based clinical judgment and appropriate escalation of care.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary care.
• Strong verbal and written communication and documentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care oversight for oncology patients in the Infusion Center.
• Collaborate with Attending Oncologists and multidisciplinary care team.
• Provide Same-Day Cancer Services for established oncology patients.
• Educate patients and families; ensure accurate documentation in the medical record.
• Provide care across infusion locations, primarily weekends with some weekday/holiday coverage.
