As part of our commitment to innovation, you'll also have access to Central Ohio's only augmented reality weather presentation system-a market-exclusive forecasting tool that allows our meteorologists to create immersive, visually compelling weathercasts that help viewers better understand the forecast and stay safe during high-impact weather.

The ideal candidate is a strong communicator, confident in breaking weather situations, and passionate about serving our communities with clear, informative forecasting and compelling storytelling.

What You'll Do

  • Report from the field on weather events, breaking news, and enterprise stories that impact Central Ohio.
  • Develop original weather-related and environmental stories that go beyond the daily forecast.
  • Collaborate with newsroom leadership to identify and produce enterprise stories where weather intersects with public safety, transportation, infrastructure, health, agriculture, and community life.
  • Deliver calm, confident coverage during severe weather and other high-impact weather events.
  • Create original weather-related content for digital, social, streaming, and mobile platforms every day.
  • Write and update forecasts for our website, mobile apps, and social media.
  • Shoot, write, and edit stories as needed.
  • Explain complex weather in a way that is easy for viewers to understand.
  • Develop graphics that enhance storytelling and improve viewer understanding.
  • Participate in community appearances, station initiatives, and public outreach events.
  • Fill in on weekday newscasts and other shifts as needed.
Looking For Someone Who
  • Has exceptional forecasting skills and strong weather judgment.
  • Is a journalist first and understands how weather affects people's daily lives.
  • Thrives during severe weather coverage and can make quick, confident decisions under pressure.
  • Is an engaging storyteller who can connect weather to the communities we serve.
  • Understands today's audience consumes weather across television, streaming, digital, social, and mobile platforms.
  • Can create compelling digital and social content that extends the life of every forecast.
  • Enjoys experimenting with new technology and finding creative ways to enhance the viewer experience.
  • Works collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented newsroom.
  • Brings energy, curiosity, and a positive attitude every day.
  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Journalism, or a related field (Meteorology preferred).
  • AMS and/or NWA Seal or Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation preferred, or the ability to obtain.
  • Three years of prior on-air forecasting experience preferred.
  • Experience reporting, shooting, writing, and editing news stories is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of severe weather forecasting and live television.
