Job description

WSYX/WTTE, the market-leading news operation in Central Ohio, is looking for a dynamic Weekend Meteorologist/Reporter to join our award-winning weather team.

This isn't just a weekend weather job. We're looking for someone who understands that weather is one of the biggest drivers of audience engagement across television, streaming, digital, social media, and mobile platforms. • Deliver calm, confident coverage during severe weather and other high-impact weather events.
  • Create original weather-related content for digital, social, streaming, and mobile platforms every day.
  • Write and update forecasts for our website, mobile apps, and social media.
  • Shoot, write, and edit stories as needed.
  • Explain complex weather in a way that is easy for viewers to understand.
  • Develop graphics that enhance storytelling and improve viewer understanding.
  • Participate in community appearances, station initiatives, and public outreach events.
  • Fill in on weekday newscasts and other shifts as needed.
Looking For Someone Who
  • Has exceptional forecasting skills and strong weather judgment.
  • Is a journalist first and understands how weather affects people's daily lives.
  • Thrives during severe weather coverage and can make quick, confident decisions under pressure.

  • Can create compelling digital and social content that extends the life of every forecast.
  • Enjoys experimenting with new technology and finding creative ways to enhance the viewer experience.
  • Works collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented newsroom.
  • Brings energy, curiosity, and a positive attitude every day.
  • Bachelor's degree in Meteorology, Atmospheric Science, Journalism, or a related field (Meteorology preferred).
  • AMS and/or NWA Seal or Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) designation preferred, or the ability to obtain.
  • Three years of prior on-air forecasting experience preferred.
  • Experience reporting, shooting, writing, and editing news stories is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of severe weather forecasting and live television.
