Job summary

Alta Forest Products LLC in Morton, WA is seeking a Journeyman Industrial Electrician to support sawmill operations. You will plan layouts, install and repair wiring, and ensure electrical equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Qualifications

  • Modeling, implementing, and complying with all company safety rules and industry standards.
  • Utilize troubleshooting skills to assist in designing and repairing electrical systems.
  • Understanding and working with three-phase systems.
  • Experience with MCCs and PLCs is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste and provide access for future maintenance.
  • Prepare sketches showing wiring locations or follow diagrams to install wiring.
  • Install control and distribution equipment and test circuit continuity for safety.
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues to improve mill functionality and reliability.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

The Role

Journeyman Industrial Electricians are an essential part of sawmill operations, ensuring that electrical equipment is in proper working condition and that mill production is maximized. This position will assist in planning layouts, installation, and repairing wiring of electrical fixtures, apparatus, and control equipment. The qualified candidate will hold a Journeyman’s license or equivalent. 3rd and 4th-year electrical apprentices will also be considered, depending on experience.

Responsibilities
  • Plans new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly hazardous and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes.
  • Prepares sketches showing the location of wiring and equipment or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before the completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring.
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles and installs electrical conduit.
  • Pulls wiring through conduit.
  • Splice wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires, and applying tape or terminal caps.
  • Connects wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment.
  • Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit‑breaker panels.
  • Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads.
  • Tests circuit continuity to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope.
  • Observes the functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and the need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement.
  • Repairs faulty equipment or systems.
  • Cuts and welds steel structural members.
  • PLC programming.
  • Troubleshoots electrical issues or ways to improve mill functionality.
  • Other duties as assigned
Work Environment

This role may operate in a professional office, log yards, and sawmill. While performing the duties of this job, employees will be exposed to machinery and moving mechanical parts. This position will often be exposed to noise, hazards, airborne particulates, and temperature changes.

Position Type/Travel/Schedule

This is a full-time position, and overtime work may be required as projects or job duties demand.

Friday through Monday, 4:00am-2:30pm

Qualifications for this position include:

Preference Will Be Given To Applicants With The Following:
  • Sawmill experience.
  • Experience with hydraulics, welding, and pneumatics.
  • Familiarity with sawmill optimization and scanning equipment.
General Requirements
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment, including climbing and heavy lifting.
  • Be willing to work weekends and holidays
  • Be willing to work both indoors and outdoors, in all weather conditions.
  • Must be 18 or older.
  • Is trustworthy and self‑motivated.
