Summary of Position

This weekend position is responsible to see that all parts of meal preparation and serving are done under the direction and as requested by supervisor. This position is to assist, as requested, in the kitchen with all aspects of food preparation, serving, clean up, restocking, and ordering of supplies. The staff member will serve as the “in charge staff” in the kitchen during the weekends and in absence of the Food Services Manager. It is also expected that the staff member will contribute to general community life through participation in activities and duties as able.

Principal Duties
  • Prepare, cook and serve nutritious meals as assigned by supervisor.
  • Plan and execute multiple tasks at one time.
  • Contribute to general up-keep of the kitchen and food storage areas.
  • Conduct food and supply inventory, ordering, purchasing and restocking of items as requested by supervisor.
  • Give leadership to weekend meal preparation as scheduled.
  • During absence of supervisor, be available to give leadership to kitchen operations.
  • Maintain healthy rapport with kitchen staff and other staff and volunteers.
  • Participate in kitchen recycling program as required by law.
  • Attend and participate in staff meeting and community meetings as scheduled.
  • Foster an attitude of “looking ahead” to accomplish tasks that will help with the next day’s schedule.
Schedule

This position has the following part-time schedule of approximately 20 hours per week:

Weekends: Every other weekend OR 2-on-2-off (Saturday & Sunday) 7:00am-5:30pm, including a ½ hour break.

QualificationsProfessional Requirements
  • Previous experience cooking in a large-batch or institutional kitchen is preferred. Additional culinary education is a plus!
  • Experience in working with people with mental illness or intellectual disabilities is preferred.
  • This position requires a committed Christian with a heart for working with mentally and emotionally challenged adults in a Christian residential care setting.
Physical, Social, Emotional, and Spiritual Requirements
  • Physical: Ability to accomplish the tasks associated with this position is essential, including standing for 7 hours, lifting up to 10-40 lbs. frequently, frequent motions including but not limited to pulling, pushing, twisting, kneeling, reaching above and below.
  • Social: Strong rapport with staff, residents, families, and professionals is essential.
  • Emotional: Skills of perception, understanding and caring for people are essential. He/she must be patient, calm under pressure, emotionally stable, and not easily-provoked.
  • Spiritual: In a visible role, this position requires spiritual insight, maturity and patience, which comes out of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Pray regularly for spiritual, emotional, and physical wellbeing of residents and for your own insight and wisdom.
