Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant for weekend coverage in the Acute Care Surgery & Critical Care (ACS/CC) team. The role focuses on inpatient care for surgical patients and ICU; weekend rounds and admissions are involved, with collaboration across residents, surgeons, and nursing staff.

The position requires a Master's in PA studies, NYS licensure, NCCPA, BLS/ACLS, and ATLS eligibility. 1–2 years in emergency/trauma care is preferred.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NYS licensure and national certification (NCCPA).
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Willing to audit or ATLS certified.
• 1-2 years of experience preferred; experience in emergency, trauma, or acute surgical care is a plus.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Strong communication and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform inpatient rounds and contribute to clinical decisions.
• Coordinate admissions/transfers for smooth transitions of care.
• Document encounters accurately in EMR.
• Assist in the operating room (first/second assist).
• Coordinate discharges and arrange follow-up.
• Respond to ACS&CC ED consults with timely evaluations.
• Collaborate with surgeons, residents, nursing staff, and other departments.
• Support trauma/acute care protocols in high-acuity situations.
• Participate in weekend hand-offs and care meetings.
• Communicate with patients, families, and team.
• Support education, research and quality initiatives.
