Job summary

The Albany Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide dedicated weekend coverage for the Acute Care Surgery and Critical Care team. The PA will focus on inpatients on the surgical service or in the ICU, working with residents for weekend coverage.

Requirements include NY licensure, NCCPA, BLS/ACLS, and 1–2 years in emergency/trauma or acute surgical care. The role demands strong communication and independent work in a fast-paced setting, with 12-hour shifts and negotiable hours.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NYS licensure and NCCPA certification.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Willing to audit or ATLS certified.
• 1–2 years of experience preferred; emergency/trauma/acute surgical care a plus.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Strong communication and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform inpatient rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making.
• Coordinate admissions and transfers for seamless transitions of care.
• Document patient encounters accurately in the EMR.
• Provide first or second assist in the operating room.
• Coordinate discharges and arrange follow-up care.
• Respond to ACS&CC ED consults with timely evaluations.
• Collaborate with attending surgeons, residents, and nursing staff.
• Support trauma and acute care protocols during high-acuity situations.
• Participate in weekend hand-offs and care coordination meetings.
