Job summary

Albany Medical Center is seeking a Physician Assistant to provide dedicated weekend coverage for the Acute Care Surgery and Critical Care team. The PA will manage inpatients on the surgical service and ICU, collaborating with residents and the ACS/CC team.

Requirements include NYS licensure, NCCPA certification, BLS/ACLS, and 1–2 years of relevant experience. Strong communication and independent work in a high-acuity environment are essential.

Qualifications

• Master's degree from an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current NYS licensure and NCCPA national certification.
• BLS and ACLS certifications required.
• Willing to audit or ATLS certified.
• 1–2 years of experience preferred; experience in emergency, trauma, or acute surgical care is a plus.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
• Strong communication and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

• Perform inpatient rounds and contribute to clinical decision-making.
• Coordinate admissions and transfers to ensure seamless transitions of care.
• Document all patient encounters accurately in the EMR.
• Provide first or second assist in the operating room.
• Coordinate patient discharges and ensure follow-up care is arranged.
• Respond to Emergency Department ACS&CC consults and provide timely evaluations.
• Collaborate with attending surgeons, residents, nursing staff, and other departments.
• Support trauma and acute care protocols during high-acuity situations.
• Participate in weekend hand-offs and care coordination meetings as needed.
• Communicate effectively with patients, families, and team members.
