Job description

The Brandeis Office of Marketing Communications seeks a Web Writer and Content Specialist to join its digital team. Reporting to the Director of Marketing Technology, with close collaboration with the editorial team, this role is responsible for creating, editing and publishing high-quality, user-centered content across Brandeis' web properties and digital channels.

This role will also contribute to an upcoming website redesign, with opportunities to help inform content direction and standards. The ideal candidate is a skilled writer with a strong editorial eye, fluency in SEO and GEO best practices and an understanding of how content structure and accuracy shape the way information is surfaced and understood in an AI-driven digital environment.

They are equally at home crafting a compelling program page and a three-word call to action, with a keen sense of how language and layout influence the way people read and navigate digital content. Candidates must include a cover letter, along with writing samples or a portfolio link demonstrating range across formats and audiences.

This is a hybrid position based on the Brandeis University campus in Waltham, MA, with three days per week in office required. The salary range for the position is $82.0 - 87.2K;

Essential & Other Functions Content Creation and Publishing (50%): Write compelling, audience-centered content across Brandeis digital properties including academic program pages, marketing landing pages, campaign content and other high-touch areas. Write and edit a range of short-form content — captions, summaries, calls to action, video descriptions and other microcontent that supports a clear user experience (UX). Develop editorial content that showcases Brandeis people, programs and achievements — from quick spotlights to longer-form storytelling as opportunities arise. Adapt and repurpose content across formats while maintaining a consistent institutional voice. Publish and maintain content using a content management system (CMS), ensuring accurate formatting, linking and page structure.

Content Strategy & Collaboration (25%): Partner with campus stakeholders to translate complex academic and institutional information into clear and effective digital content. Apply SEO and GEO best practices to all content including keyword strategy, metadata, heading structure and linking, with an understanding of how well-structured content performs in AI-driven search environments. Collaborate with designers on visual needs, making strong editorial image selections and optimizing assets for web use. Work with the marketing, web and editorial teams to identify and develop story opportunities aligned with university marketing priorities.

Review & Quality (25%): Edit and proofread web content — including content submitted by campus contributors — for clarity, accuracy, tone, accessibility and consistency with Brandeis brand and style guidelines. Conduct content reviews for departmental pages, improving readability, accessibility and messaging as needed. Use web analytics and user behavior data to evaluate content performance and inform improvements.

Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in communications, English, marketing, digital media or a related field. Minimum 3 years of professional experience in web writing or content development. Demonstrated range as a writer — from feature stories to YouTube video descriptions to concise digital microcopy. Working knowledge of SEO principles including metadata, keyword strategy and content structure. Experience with or demonstrated understanding of user-centered content and UX writing principles. Familiarity with web accessibility standards (WCAG) and how they apply to content, including alt text, plain language and heading structure. Experience with a content management system (CMS); familiarity with HTML a plus. Familiarity with AI writing tools and the editorial judgment to use them responsibly in a brand and institutional context. Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and/or Canva for web image preparation and production. Strong editorial eye and high attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects and collaborate effectively across teams. Higher education experience is preferred.
