Job summary

University of Houston's Web & Digital Marketing team seeks a skilled web content specialist to develop page content, layout, and media across college sites. You will publish HTML/CSS, create graphics, and optimize pages for a worldwide audience.

You will work with the Modern Campus CMS, ensure WCAG 2.1 AA compliance, document templates, and coordinate multiple web projects. A 4-year degree and at least one year of related experience are typical requirements; hybrid/remote work is available.

Qualifications

  • Requires a formal, job-related 4-year degree or equivalent training.
  • Minimum of 1 year of directly job-related experience.
  • Knowledge of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, and XSLT is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops content and layout of assigned web pages using graphics software for publishing on the Web.
  • Creates and edits graphics for web and print; digitizes images.
  • Assists with usability testing to ensure quality standards.
  • Coordinates updates to the website to reflect the university's image.
  • May administer a web server for a department.
  • Coordinates projects and leads the work of other Web staff.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Job description

Description:

Supports a college or department website, including writing HTML documents, creating graphics, digitizing pictures, and inserting audio and video to enhance the look and feel of the website. Coordinates various web projects that uphold the image of the university to a worldwide audience.

Pursuant to the State of Texas Executive Order No. GA-48, this position researches, works on, or has access to critical infrastructure and requires the ability to maintain the security or integrity of the University infrastructure. This position requires personnel be routinely reviewed to determine whether or not criminal history or continuous connections for the government or political apparatus of a foreign adversary might prevent the employee from being able to maintain the security or integrity of the infrastructure.

  1. Develops content and layout of assigned web pages, using graphics software specifically designed for publishing on the Web.
  2. Creates and edits graphics for web and print; digitizes images using scanning and digital camera equipment.
  3. Assists with quality and usability testing of web pages to ensure compliance with departmental quality standards.
  4. Coordinates with contacts and updates information on the assigned website to ensure that the university is well represented.
  5. May administer a microcomputer-based Web server for a college or department.
  6. Coordinates assigned projects and leads the work of other Web staff assigned to the projects.
  7. Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

MQ: "Requires a thorough understanding of both theoretical and practical aspects of an analytical, technical or professional discipline; or the basic knowledge of more than one professional discipline. Knowledge of the discipline is normally obtained through a formal, directly job-related 4 year degree from a college or university or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed. Requires a minimum of one (1) year of directly job-related experience."

Additional duties:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance reusable page templates, snippets, components, and source code assets within the Modern Campus CMS using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, XML, and XSLT.
  • Design and implement scalable, user-centered CMS solutions that support web governance standards, content consistency, and long-term maintainability.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation for templates, components, snippets, and transformation processes to support knowledge sharing and ongoing maintenance.
  • Ensure all web solutions comply with WCAG 2.1 AA, ARIA, ADA, Section 508, and university web governance standards.
