Job summary

Union College in Schenectady, NY seeks a Web Designer & Digital Strategist to own its web presence. You will bridge visual design, content strategy, and light front-end work within a Drupal environment, collaborating with a small two-person web team reporting to the VP for Communications and Marketing.

Qualifications

• 4-6+ years of digital/web design experience; entrepreneurial initiative and broad skill set.
• Portfolio demonstrating clean web layout design, strong typography, intuitive UX/UI, and responsive design.
• Interest or experience in content strategy, user journey mapping, content hierarchy, copy editing, and digital media strategy.
• Hands-on CMS experience; Drupal experience highly desirable.
• Basic to intermediate front-end coding skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) to implement design tweaks.
• Strong project management skills; ability to shepherd projects with clients.
• Self-directed with initiative; adapt in a higher education environment.

Responsibilities

• End-to-End Web & Visual Design: create responsive layouts and assets aligned with brand and admissions goals.
• Content Strategy & Digital Storytelling: plan and refine digital content for clear navigation and messaging.
• Drupal Management & Light Front-End Work: update site layouts with light CSS/HTML tweaks.
• Digital Brand Stewardship: maintain digital visual standards across channels.
• Cross-Departmental Collaboration: partner with campus stakeholders to translate goals into web solutions.
• All-Hands Pitching In: support team initiatives and campus communications.
