QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge & Experience: Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

Skills & Abilities: Must be able to read, write, perform simple math and be able to follow written/verbal instructions. Must have good manual dexterity.

Working Conditions: Must be willing to work 12-hour shifts. Must be able to work overtime as required. Must be able to stand and perform strenuous work for long hours in heat, cold, humidity and noise. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. without causing injury to him/herself.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Switches off the power to the main motor. (Switch is located on top of the electrical box.) Ensures that the switch coming into the electrical box remains on, keeping the brake engaged and the loom stationary.
• Loosens the bolts on the let-off and releases the tension on the warp ends.
• Picks a lease with his or her hands and places a lease string in the warp.
• After the lease is picked, clamps off all the warp ends and pulls the ends out long enough to pull across the tying stand before cutting them loose.
• Removes the beam clamps from the loom & the beam gear and extension from the beam being removed from the loom. Uses a warp hauler to remove the old beam. Cuts any excess yarn off the beam and places the empty beam in the storage area.
• Blows all lint, trash, dust, etc. off the loom & out from underneath it using an air hose.
• Mops up any oil on the floor. Makes sure the loom is clean. Cuts away any strings or other materials from the main shaft before placing another warp onto the loom.
• Follows the production schedule and finds the appropriate beam in the warp storage area to take back to the machine (matches the loom number to the correct beam on the schedule.) Loads the full beam on the warp hauler and takes it to the loom.
• Bolts the beam gear and extension on the full beam and places it into the loom. Replaces the clamps that hold the beam in the loom.
• Returns the warp hauler to the battery charger so it will be ready for the next beam.
• Unwraps the full warp, clamps off the ends above the lease string, and pulls the warp ends across the tying stand. Combs the ends straight and clamps them off.
• Pulls the clamped warp ends from the previous beam across the tying stand, combing them straight and clamping them off.
• Places the tying machine on the stand and pulls the lease sticks through both sheets of clamped off yarn. With lease sticks through both warps, secures the lease strings from the tying machine in the lease sticks and pulls them through the warp ends, securing the lease strings on the stand.
• Counts the warp ends on the new warp being tied in and compares it to the pattern sheet. Ensures the ends on the warp match those listed on the pattern sheet.
• Plugs the tying machine into the electrical outlet on the loom. Starts the tying machine and ties the two sets of warp yarns together.
• When the machine is finished tying, unplugs the tying machine and returns it to the storage box. Unclamps the tied warp ends, removes them from the tying stand, and rolls the tying stand out of the way.
• Removes the temple covers from the loom, unlocks the sand roller, and pulls the warp knots through the drop wires, harnesses, and reed.
• Ties in any warp ends that break out, unless otherwise directed by the supervisor. Replaces the bar located behind the whip roller.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area. Picks up tools, clamps, combs, etc. used in tying in the warp and takes them to the next warp out.
• Performs routine cleaning and oiling and inspects and replaces lease strings on the machine when needed. Completes a maintenance request form if the tying machine isn’t working properly so it can be repaired.
• Fills out the work sheet as work is completed. Ensures all paperwork is timely, complete, accurate, and legible. Turns in completed paperwork at the end of each shift.
• Communicates with on-coming shift regarding any problems he or she may have had with the tying machine or warp haulers.
• Follows all safety requirements for the job and uses the required personal protective equipment supplied (safety glasses and hearing protection.) Reports any safety hazards that he or she sees to the supervisor.
• Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor or department manager.
