Job summary

WGAL-TV, the Hearst-owned NBC affiliate serving the Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lebanon and York market, seeks a Meteorologist/Weather Reporter with strong forecasting skills and a dynamic on-air presence. You will deliver polished forecasts, report live from the field during severe weather, and craft weather stories for TV and digital platforms.

You should bring expertise in meteorology, storytelling and innovative weather reporting, with experience in weather graphics and multimedia storytelling.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of meteorology, weather science and forecasting.
• Dynamic, authentic and conversational on-air presence.
• Ability to combine scientific credibility with personality, warmth and strong storytelling.
• Experience with television weather systems and graphics.
• Strong live reporting skills.
• Digital/social media expertise and enthusiasm for innovative storytelling.
• Must work weekends, flexible schedule for severe weather, etc.
• NWA Seal of Approval and/or AMS Certified Broadcast Meteorologist designation or intent to pursue.

Responsibilities

• Analyze weather data and develop accurate forecasts for WGAL viewing area.
• Deliver compelling in-studio weather forecasts.
• Build graphics and forecasts with little supervision.
• Provide urgent, authoritative coverage before, during and after severe weather events.
• Report live from the field during severe weather with context and safety information.
• Interpret radar and model data for viewers.
• Create weather content across TV, digital, streaming and social platforms.
• Collaborate with newsroom staff on coverage across platforms.
