Job summary

WGAL-TV in Pennsylvania seeks a Meteorologist / Weather Reporter with a passion for forecasting and storytelling. You will deliver engaging in-studio forecasts and create compelling weather content for TV, digital and social platforms.

You will report from the field during severe weather, explain radar and model data clearly, and produce enterprise weather stories for multiple platforms. This role reports to the News Director.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of meteorology, weather science and forecasting.
• Dynamic, authentic and conversational on-air presence.
• Ability to combine scientific credibility with personality, warmth and storytelling.
• Experience with television weather systems and graphics.
• Digital/social media expertise and enthusiasm for innovative storytelling.
• Must work weekends and flexible during severe weather or holidays.
• NWA Seal of Approval and/or AMS CBM or intent to pursue certifications.
• Related military experience will be considered.

Responsibilities

• Analyze weather data and develop accurate, timely forecasts for the WGAL viewing area.
• Deliver compelling, conversational and easy-to-understand in-studio weather forecasts.
• Build graphics and forecasts with little supervision.
• Provide urgent, authoritative and calm coverage before, during and after severe weather events.
• Report live from the field during severe weather, providing viewers with immediate observations, context and safety information.
• Interpret radar, model guidance and other meteorological data and translate complex information into useful information for viewers.
• Create and deliver weather content across television, digital, streaming, social and partner platforms.
• Report live from the field on community events, seasonal stories and other assignments in addition to weather coverage.
• Develop community-focused stories and connect weather with people/events important to our audience.
• Serve as an enthusiastic ambassador for WGAL in the community at station appearances and events.
• Gather, verify and summarize information for broadcast and digital coverage.
• Participate in daily editorial meetings and contribute weather and story ideas.
• Keep newsroom personnel informed about current and developing weather conditions.
• Collaborate with anchors, reporters, producers, photographers and digital teams across platforms.
