Job summary

Meta is seeking a Softgoods Product Design Engineering Intern in Sunnyvale to help design and develop technical soft goods across Wearables, Cases, and Accessories. You will apply mechanical engineering principles to create innovative solutions and build prototypes for production readiness.

You will collaborate with Industrial Design, Human Factors, Product Management and Reliability to define requirements, perform analyses, and iterate designs for fit, durability, and aesthetics.

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing or holding a Bachelors or Masters in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field.
• Experience with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or CATIA).
• Ability to work hands-on to build prototypes and conduct testing.
• Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining and Injection Molding.
• Must obtain work authorization at time of hire and maintain it during employment.
• Intent to return to full-time degree program after completion of the internship.

Responsibilities

• Own the design of Softgoods parts and assemblies for Meta's Wearables, Cases, and Accessories.
• Use creativity and mechanical engineering expertise to generate innovative solutions to complex problems.
• Develop ideas using 3D CAD.
• Define specifications for parts and assemblies by building comprehensive 2D drawings.
• Collaborate with Industrial Design, Human Factors, Product Management and Reliability to define engineering requirements.
• Perform engineering analysis using first principles, DOE, testing, and data analysis.
• Prototype designs using 3D printing, CNC, forming, bonding, and other methods.
• Engage with external suppliers to deliver scalable, reliable, cost-efficient designs.
• Troubleshoot production issues by iterating on design.
