Job description

Description

About the Position

The Point Surf Park is looking for focused, dependable Wave Operators to help safely and accurately deliver the surf sessions our guests come to experience.

Wave Operators work from the designated control area and operate The Point’s approved wave-generation system according to established programs, procedures, and session schedules.

This is a safety-sensitive technical position that requires sustained attention, accurate system operation, clear communication, and good judgment. You will work closely with Water Patrol, Lifeguards, Operations, Maintenance, and Surf Instruction to make sure every session is delivered safely and reliably.

At The Point, no wave is worth a life. If conditions are uncertain, our Operators are expected to stop and ask.

What You’ll Do
Operate the Wave System
  • Operate the wave-generation system only after completing required training, competency verification, and authorization.
  • Review session schedules, approved wave programs, participant levels, operational notes, staffing, and safety conditions before operation.
  • Complete startup, system-readiness, communication, and control-area checks.
  • Select and run only approved wave settings and programs.
  • Verify system entries before activation and never modify settings outside assigned authority.
Monitor Every Session
  • Continuously monitor control screens, alarms, system status, session timing, lagoon activity, and communications.
  • Maintain sustained attention throughout active operations.
  • Start, pause, resume, or stop wave production according to approved procedures and real-time conditions.
  • Immediately stop or pause operations when a guest, employee, equipment, communication, or environmental condition may create a safety concern.
Communicate Across the Operation
  • Maintain clear communication with Lifeguards, Water Patrol, Operations, Surf Instruction, Maintenance, and designated leadership.
  • Confirm important safety and operating communications rather than assuming they were received.
  • Complete clear session and shift handoffs.
Respond to System Issues
  • Report abnormal readings, alarms, system irregularities, communication failures, and equipment concerns immediately.
  • Never bypass safeguards.
  • Never attempt repairs, restricted adjustments, or troubleshooting outside your training and authorization.
  • Work with Leads, Maintenance, and authorized technical personnel when a system issue occurs.
Document the Operation
  • Accurately record wave settings, operating times, interruptions, alarms, incidents, adjustments, and unresolved issues.
  • Document active restrictions, maintenance concerns, safety notes, and information needed by the next Operator.
  • Complete all required briefings, drills, training, opening, closing, and documentation activities on paid time.
What We’re Looking For
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain sustained focus.
  • Calm, concise communication during normal operations, delays, system interruptions, and emergencies.
  • Basic computer, touchscreen, control-system, radio, and electronic-log skills, or the ability to learn quickly.
  • Ability to follow approved procedures exactly.
  • Sound judgement and willingness to pause or stop rather than guess.
  • Dependability, honesty, teamwork, coachability, and confidentiality.
  • Prior experience in control-room operations, attractions, aquatics, industrial or technical operations, dispatch, recreation, or another safety-sensitive environment preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Ability to complete manufacturer- and company-required training and demonstrate competency before operating independently.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain any required system, safety, emergency-response, or operational credentials.
The Kind of Team Member Who Will Thrive Here

You can stay focused even when the job becomes repetitive.

You double-check before you activate.

You communicate early instead of waiting for a small issue to become a bigger one.

You follow procedures and do not experiment with a live operating system.

You are comfortable stopping the wave if something is uncertain.

And you understand that the people in the water depend on you to get it right.

Schedule

Schedules may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, special events, extended operating periods, and changing session schedules.

Regular and reliable attendance, punctuality, sustained attention, and the ability to remain focused for the full assigned shift are essential.
