Job summary

The American Youth Foundation is seeking a Waterfront Coordinator to lead lifeguards, sailing and paddling specialists, and waterfront activities at Merrowvista Camp in Tuftonboro, NH. You will ensure safety, supervise staff, schedule shifts, and manage equipment for all water-based programming.

Gain hands-on leadership with strong emphasis on training, risk management, and creative program development for youth across ages.

Qualifications

• Minimum age 21 years old.
• Lifeguard certification with prior lifeguarding experience.
• 2–3 years lifeguarding experience.
• 2–3 years working or volunteering with youth.
• Demonstrated peer supervision or leadership with young adults.
• Strong organizational and communication skills; detail-oriented.
• Ability to manage people and follow through on projects.

Responsibilities

• Support health, safety, and wellbeing of campers and staff.
• Co-supervise lifeguards and specialists; provide training and daily support.
• Coach staff on lesson planning, activity prep, lifeguarding protocols.
• Create and maintain waterfront schedules; ensure coverage.
• Manage equipment and supplies; keep boathouse clean.
• Direct swimming skills tests and ensure beginner safety.
• Prepare camp programming; delegate tasks with Activities Coordinator.
• Develop new waterfront games and events; manage weather contingencies.
• Evaluate waterfront team performance and provide feedback.
• Serve as lifeguard when needed; assist with camper care.
• Maintain safety standards and risk management.
• Foster positive camper relationships.
• Communicate with supervisor and attend staff meetings.
