The American Youth Foundation seeks a Waterfront Coordinator to lead lifeguards, sailing and paddling specialists, and waterfront staff at Miniwanca, Shelby, Michigan. The role oversees all waterfront programming, ensures safety compliance, schedules lifeguard shifts, and trains staff.

Qualifications

• Must hold lifeguard certification and have prior lifeguarding experience.
• 2–3 years of lifeguarding experience and youth work in recreational/educational settings.
• Proven leadership with young adults and peer supervision experience.
• Strong organizational and communication abilities; attentive to detail.
• Ability to manage people, schedules, and safety programs effectively.

Responsabilités

• Support health, safety, and well-being of campers and staff.
• Supervise lifeguards and specialists; provide training and daily guidance.
• Coach staff on facilitation, lesson planning, and lifeguarding protocols.
• Create and maintain waterfront schedules and coverage at all times.
• Manage waterfront equipment and facilities; inventory and restock resources.
• Direct swimming tests for campers and staff with safety focus.
• Assist Activities Coordinator in assigning campers to blocks; maintain rosters.
• Prepare camp programming in advance; delegate duties accordingly.
• Develop new waterfront games and events; execute with attention to detail.
• Provide weather contingency plans and evaluate team performance.
• Serve as lifeguard when needed and support camper care.
• Ensure safety standards and risk management across waterfront activities.
• Build positive camper relationships and foster belonging.
• Communicate daily with supervisor and attend staff meetings.
