Job summary

Naval Nuclear Laboratory in Charleston is seeking a Mechanical/Structural Engineer to support the Site Engineering team at NPTU-C. You will work to keep vessels safe, connected, and mission-ready, applying structural analysis and AutoCAD to infrastructure projects and major construction efforts.

Requirements include a Bachelor's in engineering with 2+ years of experience or a Master's with 1+ year, and U.S. citizenship.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering/technical field with 2+ years of relevant experience, or a Master's with 1+ year.
  • Additional eligibility: U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain clearances as required.
  • Experience with waterfront infrastructure and structural assessments is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Cognizant engineer for waterfront structures and piers, ensuring safety and readiness.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on infrastructure upgrades from concept to construction.
  • Provide in-service engineering support for civil systems (water, sanitary, storm water).
  • Assess lifting operations and weight capacity; recommend reinforcements or limits.
  • Perform structural load calculations for wind, seismic, and environmental loads.
  • Conduct technical and QA reviews for mechanical disciplines and submittals.
