Job summary

GEI Consultants, Inc. invites Engineering Interns or Co-ops to join a team delivering coastal and waterfront projects across the Northeast.

You’ll gain hands-on experience in design, analysis, field surveys, and construction oversight while learning from experienced engineers and scientists. This internship builds your Civil/Structural/Ocean Engineering skills through practical, mentored work on real projects, with opportunities to travel for site work and exposure to AutoCAD, Civil3D, and Revit

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in 3rd or 4th year of ABET-accredited Civil/Structural/Ocean Engineering BS (MS welcome).
  • Strong curiosity, initiative and attention to detail.
  • Experience (or strong desire to learn) AutoCAD, Civil3D, or Revit.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid U.S. driver’s license and willingness to travel for site work (overnight trips).
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Support the design and analysis of coastal and waterfront structures.
  • Participate in field surveys, inspections, and construction oversight—from pile driving to concrete placement.
  • Develop technical skills using AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil3D.
  • Perform calculations, prepare spreadsheets, and contribute to design documentation.
  • Shadow engineers to learn the career path after graduation.
  • Assist with permitting, project coordination, and client support as needed.

Essential Responsibilities & Duties

As an Engineering Intern or Co‑Op, you’ll play a key role on a collaborative team working on exciting waterfront and coastal projects across the Northeast. Every day will bring new challenges and learning opportunities, including:

  • Supporting the design and analysis of coastal and waterfront structures.
  • Participating in field surveys, inspections, and construction oversight - from pile driving to concrete placement or helping with above and below water inspections.
  • Developing your technical skills using AutoCAD, Revit, and Civil3D.
  • Performing calculations, preparing spreadsheets, and contributing to design documentation.
  • Shadowing our engineers to learn what the career path looks like after graduation.
  • Assisting with permitting, project coordination, and client support as needed.

You’ll work in the office, in the field, and sometimes on‑site - getting to know what coastal and structural engineering is about.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Currently enrolled in your 3rd or 4th year of a Civil, Structural, or Ocean Engineering (or related) B.S. program at an ABET-accredited school. M.S. students are also welcome!
  • A strong sense of curiosity, initiative, and attention to detail.
  • Experience (or strong desire to learn) AutoCAD, Civil3D, or Revit.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license and willingness to travel for site work (some overnight trips)
  • Comfortable working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Coursework in structural steel, reinforced concrete, or coastal modeling.
  • Public speaking or leadership experience.
  • Diving certification - especially if you’re interested in underwater inspections!
