Job summary

The City of Fort Lauderdale is seeking a skilled technician to support water, wastewater and stormwater systems. The role requires a CDL Class B or higher with Air Brakes and involves heavy manual labor, operating diverse machinery, and field inspections.

Expect to respond to emergencies, work various shifts, and maintain safety and compliance with city SOPs. Experience in utilities or underground work is preferred; a tanker endorsement is a plus.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• CDL Class B or higher with Air Brakes; tanker endorsement preferred.
• Veterans' Preference eligibility with DD214 and disability documentation per state rules.

Responsibilities

• Participates in installation, maintenance, and repairs of water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
• Locates service lines, detects leaks, excavates, and repairs service lines.
• Operates equipment and machinery such as jet vacuum, backhoe, loader as assigned.
• May stand-by for off-duty emergency call-ins and work nights or weekends.
• Ensures compliance with safety regulations and SOPs.
• May perform road-way maintenance and pothole repairs.
