Job summary

The City of Fort Lauderdale seeks a skilled workforce member to repair and maintain water mains, sewers and stormwater infrastructure. A valid CDL Class B with Air Brakes is required at application and hire, with medical clearance and a clean driving record.

Work includes heavy labor, operation of multiple heavy equipment, and routine inspections of water and wastewater systems. The role may require night/weekend shifts and standby emergency response.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• At least 1 year of Wastewater & Underground Utilities experience preferred.
• CDL Class B with Air Brakes and a clean driving record required at appointment.

Responsibilities

• Participates in installation, maintenance, and repairs of water distribution, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
• Responds to customer complaints; locates service lines, detects leaks, excavates, and repairs service lines.
• Installs and maintains drainage swales, manholes, catch basins, pipes, taps and other components.
• Inspects water mains, meters, valves, hydrants, and sewer lines for condition assessments and leaks.
• Operates a variety of machinery: jet vacuum, bulldozer, backhoe, bobcat, forklift, roller, excavator, front end loader, grader, asphalt spreader, pothole truck, boom truck.
• Performs stand-by duty and may work nights and weekends.
• Ensures compliance with safety regulations and procedures.
