Job summary

The City of San Marcos seeks an Assistant Director of Utilities - Water/Wastewater to lead water production, wastewater treatment, and related infrastructure, ensuring safe, reliable service and regulatory compliance for residents and businesses.

You will direct operations, oversee asset management, manage budgets, and collaborate with agencies, consultants, and developers, while mentoring staff and driving continuous improvement across the division.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, engineering, or related field required or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years progressively responsible experience in water/wastewater utilities with 5+ years in senior management.
• Level B Water and/or Wastewater Certification required within 2 years of employment.
• Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License with good driving record.

Responsibilities

• Lead water/wastewater division operations, including production, treatment, distribution, and collection.
• Ensure regulatory compliance and operational excellence through policy implementation and performance management.
• Manage budgeting, planning, and project oversight to support department objectives.
• Provide leadership, supervision, and representation for the division in regulatory and community engagements.
