Job summary

City of Wasilla, AK seeks an entry-level employee to learn operating and maintaining its water treatment and distribution systems as well as wastewater collection and treatment facilities. You will work under close supervision to deliver a safe product and great customer service to utility customers.

You'll learn to control production, monitor gauges, perform rounds, readings, and basic maintenance while pursuing Alaska provisional certifications and a Class A/B CDL with Tanker endorsement.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED or equivalent.
• One year experience in water distribution or sewer collection preferred.
• Must obtain Alaska provisional certifications in water and wastewater within 1 year; convert to level 1 within three years.
• Must possess a valid Class A or B CDL with Tanker endorsement at time of application and provide driving record.
• Ability to respond to utility call-outs within 20 minutes and follow safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Learn to operate water production and distribution facilities under supervision.
• Learn to operate wastewater collection and treatment facilities with guidance.
• Perform daily rounds, record pump and reservoir data, and collect samples.
• Maintain distribution mains, service hydrants, and detect leaks; troubleshoot pumps and controls.
• Operate meters, steam thaw mains, and locate service lines from drawings.
