Job summary

City of Harrisburg South Dakota is seeking a Water/Wastewater Operator to support both water distribution and wastewater treatment duties. The role includes operating and maintaining drinking water systems, water towers, hydrants, mains, valves, meters, and the sanitary sewer network, including lift stations and the Water Reclamation Facility.

Qualified candidates will have a high school diploma and the ability to obtain SD Class 1 operator certifications within two years; CDL license or ability

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must obtain SD Class 1 operator certifications within 2 years.
• Experience in repair and maintenance of water and wastewater equipment.
• Ability to operate and maintain water distribution and sewer systems.

Responsibilities

• Share duties between the water distribution system and the wastewater treatment system based on division needs.
• Operate, maintain, and repair the drinking water system and related equipment (water towers, hydrants, mains, valves, meters).
• Operate the sanitary sewer system including lift stations and Water Reclamation Facility, and related equipment.
• Perform sampling and reporting to comply with DANR and EPA requirements.
• Perform general city equipment servicing and field maintenance or repairs.
• Conduct locating services for City utilities and respond to emergencies after hours as needed.
• Assist with snow/ice removal and general grounds maintenance as required.
• Rotating weekend and holiday shifts; maintain professional appearance and customer service.
• Assist in other duties as directed by water/wastewater superintendents or Public Works Director.
