Job summary

The City of Harrisburg is seeking a Water/Wastewater Operator to manage the operation, maintenance, and repair of the city’s water distribution and wastewater systems, reporting to the Water and Wastewater Superintendents. The role includes equipment upkeep, sampling, and regulatory reporting.

Ideal candidates have a high school diploma or GED, within two years SD Class 1 certification, and experience in repairs. Field duties include outdoor work, potential emergencies, and rotating shifts.

Qualifications

• Graduation from high school or GED certification.
• Must possess or be able to obtain within 2 years South Dakota class 1 operators’ certification for water distribution, wastewater collection and treatment.
• Experience in repair and maintenance of related equipment and machinery.

Responsibilities

• Operate and maintain water distribution and wastewater collection and treatment systems.
• Repair and maintain related equipment and machinery.
• Perform sampling and reporting per DANR and EPA requirements.
• Respond to emergencies after hours and assist in solutions.
• Coordinate with Water and Wastewater Superintendents and Public Works Director.
