Job description

Thalle Construction Co. Inc. (“Thalle”) is seeking a Project Manager. The Project Manager will report to the Project Executive, work closely with the operations team, and interact with staff at all levels. Must be resourceful, proactive, efficient, and maintain professionalism and confidentiality. This position is based in Sanford, North Carolina.

Thalle, established in 1947, is a heavy civil construction company with a corporate office in Hillsborough, NC, and a regional office in Alvarado, Texas. Our projects span the South East, Texas, New Jersey, and nationwide, involving dams, reservoirs, locks, DOT roadway construction, bridges, utilities, landfills, excavation, wastewater, and emergency services.

Job Title: Project Manager

Overview:

The Project Manager is responsible for the financial success and overall management of one or more large-scale heavy civil projects. The role involves decision-making authority over project planning and execution.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Plan and organize civil construction projects according to requirements and standards.
  2. Ensure quality control and review designs for compliance and standards.
  3. Prepare reports for management review.
  4. Coordinate with field management to resolve issues and ensure project success.
  5. Approve equipment, personnel, and requisitions from superintendents.
  6. Handle issue resolution authority related to project plans and execution.
  7. Escalate issues appropriately to upper management.
  8. Organize project staff and assign roles.
  9. Manage project budget to meet profit margins.
  10. Ensure accurate reporting of labor, equipment, and costs.
  11. Monitor project financial performance and update projections.
  12. Submit cost and income reports and requisitions timely.
  13. Adjust project strategies based on financial performance.
  14. Understand contract terms and specifications thoroughly.
  15. Represent Thalle in meetings with owners and engineers.
  16. Communicate delays and extensions per contract requirements.
  17. Protect company interests and resolve conflicts professionally.
  18. Understand project schedule and milestones.
  19. Select and evaluate subcontractors and suppliers.
  20. Oversee subcontracts and purchase orders.
  21. Ensure safety protocols are followed and foster a safety culture.
  22. Serve as liaison with government agencies, subcontractors, and Thalle teams.
  23. Perform other duties as assigned.

Education and Work Experience Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  2. Experience in Water/Wastewater construction.
  3. Relevant licenses and certifications.
  4. 5-7 years in project engineering and management.
  5. Experience in Heavy Civil Construction.
  6. Proficiency in Primavera, Viewpoint, HCSS Heavy Bid, P6.
  7. 30-hour OSHA safety certification or equivalent.
  8. Ability to foster collaborative relationships.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Ability to perform essential functions safely and effectively, meeting productivity standards.
  2. Maintain regular attendance as per standards.
  3. Lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
  4. Clear communication skills.
